Improve Your Room Acoustics and Kill it on TikTok… Well, Something Like That

Could outfitting your room with acoustical treatment help a TikTok video score more than two million views? For Dallas-area musician and producer Jason Dering, that’s precisely what happened.

Jason, who recently upgraded his home studio space, posted a short video on the creative platform where he banged together drumsticks to demonstrate the stark sonic difference between his living room and his acoustically-treated studio.

“The biggest issue (prior to re-doing his environment) I was having in this room was… it was really rumbly and bassy… I didn’t feel like I could depend on this room for anything in its old state. You know, the bass was too loud, everything felt like it was kind of in a little chamber, so I just wanted to cut down on all of that and make it more pure in here.”

The video demonstrates a massive improvement in the clarity and control of the sound with the acoustical treatment and guidance from Auralex. As the video took off across TikTok and Instagram, Jason continued to be satisfied with the improvements in his home studio.

“I kind of do it all. I play a lot of instruments and sing and produce. It’s kind of just a one-stop shop here (his room). I grew up in a musical family… My parents are musicians and brothers and all that, so fortunately, I can do a lot of (the production) myself and so the need was kind of everything. I needed somewhere to mix, and I needed a nice place to record vocals, especially. Like, sitting here at the desk, I needed it to sound good. I didn’t need to go to a booth."
